Hockey parents, this is great, in town camp with spots open.  Sign up today!

Parents of Pierre Minor Hockey,

The Black Hills Hockey Academy will be making its second visit to Pierre SD the week of August 8-12, 2016.  Last year’s camp was a great success for everyone involved, and I want you all to be a part of the 2016 version. Cost of the camp is $350 for skaters ($375 if you get customized jersey and socks). All of our camp info along with the registration form can be found on our website (www.bhhockeyacademy.com).

The deadline to get our jerseys ordered is July 6th. So before you head out for your 4th of July weekend, make sure you sign up, or at least shoot me an email letting me know that you plan to sign up and don’t want to miss out on the camp jersey and socks! (blackhillshockeyacademy@hotmail.com)

Some of the highlights from last year’s camp

- Our great turnout--we had 26 kids from ages Mites all the way up to PeeWee which was a great start for a first year camp!

- The custom jerseys and socks that the kids took home were a huge hit, and we are looking to amp it up a notch again this year!

- The student and teacher interaction was great. The camp was lead by Riley Weselowski, and also featured Jeremy Gates and Scott Brannon as instructors. All three had played the previous season for the Rapid City Rush and it was great to see how excited the kids were to learn from the Pro’s!

- The accessibility of the PAYSA arena allowed us to get great use of the ice time each day. You just cant get this much ice time at other camps. Over the course of the week the kids logged around 15 hours of on ice, which was split up into two sessions each day Monday through Friday and camp also included an hour of dryland workouts each day as well.

- The scrimmage on the last day of camp was an excellent opportunity for the kids to show off the skills they had learned during week. It was so great to see the confidence grow in the kids in a short period of time, and judging by the smiles it was quite evident that everyone had a great time.

- The PAYSA compressors were hanging on by a thread and were in very bad shape by the end of the week, but our great turnout allowed us to be able to donate $500 back to PAYSA, which along with our ice fees hopefully did a small part in helping to replace those compressors and getting the rink back up and running.

With a year in Pierre under our belt, 2016 is sure to be an even better week!  Here is some basic information about this year’s camp.  You can find out everything Black Hills Hockey academy at our website or at our facebook page.

2016 BHHA in Pierre SD

Who- The Black Hills Hockey Academy will be lead once again by Riley Weselowski. Riley started the BHHA 6 years ago, and works with over 240 kids every summer from the middle of May until the end of September.  This year’s camp will also once again feature “Coach Gator”, Jeremy Gates who won the Southern Professional hockey Championship last season with the Pensacola Ice Flyers, and new to the team this year will be Michael Young, who was the top Defenseman last season for the Rapid City Rush and was announced a couple weeks ago as the first signing for next season. Mike played his college hockey with the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Long time BHHA instructor Connor Ward will also most likely be making the trip this summer. Find out more about the BHHA instructors on our website.

What- an opportunity to improve your skating and puck handling skills so that once next season rolls around you have the edge on the other players in your age group.  One of the greatest feelings I get as a coach is when a parent calls me to tell me their son or daughter made the team they were trying out for, and thanking me for the work we did in the summer to get them to that point.  The right summer camp will go a long ways in fine-tuning your hockey skills and keeping you at the top of your game during the long summer months.  At BHHA we are not your average “assembly line” hockey school.  All of our camps are run right here in local South Dakota, and that means we can focus all of our resources and energy into putting on the absolute best experience for your child.  I would feel confident putting our camp up against any of the larger camps in the bigger cites, and saying that the athletes will benefit as much if not more from our smaller camp.  Each year we have seen the same faces walk through the arena doors for our camps.  Most of the kids that have attended once will rank our hockey academy at the very top of their list of things they would like to do in the summer.

Where- The on ice sessions will be held at the PAYSA rink, and dryland training will be held outside, and we will be taking a bus to some city parks and soccer fields on a couple of the days.

When- The Pierre Camp will run the week of August 8-12, 2016. Kids will be dropped off sometime before 9am, and will finish each day between 1:30pm and 2pm.

Why Us?- Our week long super camp is designed to ensure players of all levels will leave with not only better ice skills, but with a knowledge of the game as taught by instructors that have been involved at all levels of amateur and professional hockey. You will find the combination of on ice time and dryland training, as well as tips and testimonials from professional players will provide a well-rounded experience for all participants. Our instructors will challenge the young athletes to take their game outside of the "comfort zone" with specially designed drills, small games, corrective coaching and repetition. Whether you are trying the game for the first time, playing competitive travel hockey, or playing the game professionally, the number one thing that makes hockey the greatest game on the planet is how much fun it can be.  That is why our athletes come back year after year.  We learn, we get better every day, and we have a whole lot of fun doing it!

I look forward to seeing all of you and working with your son/daughter this August. For more information or to register please check out the website, shoot me an email, or even give me a call (218-290-1433). I would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Yours In Hockey,

Riley Weselowski
