Oahe Hockey Association Volunteerism Policy

Adopted by the Board July 13, 2010_

1)  Following confirmation of final scheduling, Cleaning and Open Skate will be assigned to each level based on a rotation system and home/away games.

2)  Volunteer Points:

Ø  Mini-Mites:   20 points (30 points for two or more skaters)

Ø  Mites:   25 points (35 points for two or more skaters)

Ø  Squirts – Varsity:   30 points per family (40 points for two or more skaters)

**All Senior players must have their total of 5 player hours (see #3) completed on or before February 28th of the current hockey season. If not, the difference in time will have to be paid before the player will be allowed to play in the state tournament.

**In the situation of multiple players at different levels, points will be based on the highest level of player participation (Example: a family having a Mite player and a Bantam player –Bantam requires 30 points  and add 10 for the Mite player)

3)   Player Volunteer Hours – A minimum of 5 Volunteer Hours is required of all players at level Pee Wee and Up. These hours are kept track of separately and DO NOT count towards family’s hours.

(Please note: Players are required to complete HOURS of volunteer work….while families are assessed by a point system – see page 3 &4 of this document).

At least 3 hours can be earned through cleaning, rink set-up, rink tear-down and rink maintenance.

2 hours may be earned elsewhere in the rink (student coaching, concession & gate). NOTE: To work concession and gate the player must be accompanied by an adult and must be at the Bantam level or higher

Players at all levels are encouraged to take pride in their rink.  They are expected to pick up locker rooms after using them, pick up trash in the hallways and concession area, and in general keep the rink looking great.

4)   Points will be recorded by the Points Coordinator and accumulated points can be viewed on the OHA website under the player’s last name. Families will be listed alphabetically with points recorded shown and this page will be password protected.

NOTE: There are two ways in  which you can report your points:

  A) You can report your points to your Level Point Coordinator. They will have a place to record your points on the level boards in the warming room.

 B) There is now a section on the website that you can report your points. You will need to click on the “Log Volunteer Hours” (left side of homepage), complete the form, click next page and this will automatically be sent to the Points Coordinator.

Please be advised that signing up to do a volunteer position does not automatically record your points. You must report your points using one of the above options after you have completed the task you signed up to do.

5)  Points Collection:  Points will be collected beginning May 1 of the year you signed this policy thru April 20 of the following year.  If you do not have enough points accumulated by April 20 of the following year in which you signed this policy, you will be assessed the difference based on $20.00 per point. Players will be assessed $20.00 per hour.

6)  Buy-Out Option:   Instead of accumulating points you may choose to buy-out your points.  However, this is not an option for the player.  The player will still be required to accumulate 5 hours (See #5).  The rate is $600.00 for a single player and $800.00 for multiple players.  The buy out rate is calculated at $20.00 per point.
