The Capitals finish the pre-season Huron Jamboree 3-1
Game #1: Oahe = 2 (SOG 24), Worthington = 3 (SOG 42)
The first matchup on Saturday was against Worthington. The Capitals came out ready to play in the first period with Turner Starr taking the puck the length of the ice to get the first goal of the game with 13:32 left in the first period. Worthington answered with a goal of their own with 9:57 remaining in the first period. Isaac Polak would score the final goal of the period for the Caps when he snuck the puck past the goalie after having his initial shot blocked by the defender with 5:49. Both teams were scoreless in the second period. With 2:29 left in the third period, Worthington tied the game at 2-2. And with only 29.2 seconds left in the game, Worthington came out on top with the game winning goal. Kieran Duffy had 39 saves.
Game #2: Oahe = 5 (SOG 29), Watertown = 0 (SOG 10)
The last game on Saturday had the Capitals facing Watertown. Polak would score the first goal at 11:18 left in the first period with the assist from Conlan Rendell. A productive 2nd and 3rd period would bring in 4 more goals for the Caps. With 5:20 remaining in the second period, Ashton Griese had an unassisted goal to put the score at 2-0. A little over a minute later with 4:17 remaining in the second period, Polak got the assist with Michael Molseed placing the goal in the back of the net. Another two goals in the third period and keeping the Watertown Lakers scoreless, would give the Capitals a win with a score of 5-0. Rendell rocketed the puck from the blue line past traffic to get the first goal of the third period with 14:21 remaining. The Griese/Starr duo would again come up with a point on the board after Starr sent the puck from behind the net to Griese with 9:34 remaining in the final period. Colin Lee recorded the shutout with 10 saves.
Game #3: Oahe = 1 (SOG 36), Sioux Center = 0 (SOG 14)
The Capitals first meeting with Sioux Center took place Sunday morning. Both teams remained scoreless in the first period. The Caps would be the first to get on the scoreboard with 2:40 remaining in the second with a goal from Polak and the assist credited to Keenan Howard. The third period entailed 5 penalties on Sioux Center at 8:55, 7:21, 4:41, 1:54 and 1:16. The Caps were unable to score on the powerplay opportunities but were able to also keep the Tornadoes scoreless to come up with their second win of the Jamboree. Duffy with the shutout and 14 saves.
Game #4: Oahe = 4 (SOG 24), Huron = 3 (SOG 27)
The final game of the Jamboree would be to the host team, Huron All Stars. The Capitals were called for "too many skaters on the ice" and would need to kill the penalty. Starr made sure that happened with an short hand unassisted goal at 10:14 remaining in the first period. Huron would be the first to score in the second period with a shorthanded goal at 13:14 to tie the game at 1-1. The lead would not last long for Huron as Starr utilized his teammate Ryan Wedin to give Wedin the goal at 11:42 remaining in the second. Huron would tie the game at 2-2 with 11:16 remaining in the second period. A back and forth of goals put the Capitals ahead at 8:21 when Jonathan Lyons scored on a pass from Howard. But less than a minute later at 7:46 in the second, Huron answered with another goal to tied the game at 3-3 going into the third period. The Capitals were able to kill the penalties and not allow Huron to score on the powerplays at 12:07 and 8:04. With 3:44 remaining in the third, Griese would score the game winning goal. Lee with 24 saves in the game.
