Third Ranked Brookings Rangers glide by the Oahe Capitals

Oahe Capitals (SOG = 6) vs. Brookings Rangers (SOG = 42)

The Rangers would keep the Caps scoreless in the first period while scoring four goals of their own.  The first goal would be a power play goal at 12:10 after a tripping penalty at 12:32 put Alex Hight in the box.  Less than three minutes later, the Rangers would score on a rebound after the first shot attempt was denied by Kieran Duffy with 9:55 left in the first period.  A slashing penalty on Turner Starr at the 8:04 mark would give the Rangers the power play advantage.  Again Brookings would take advantage of the power play allowing them to score with 7:30 left in the first period to put them up by 3.  The Capitals would be unable to find the back of the net on the power play advantage after a Rangers penalty with 7:09 remaining in the first.   Back to back coincidentals found Starr and Conlan Rendell along with two Brookings players in the penalty box at 3:14 and 3:03.  With 1:59 left in the first period, the Rangers would increase their lead to 4.

The Capitals would be the first to score with the extra skater advantage after a Brookings tripping penalty with 11:32 on the clock in the second period.  Keenan Howard would get the Capitals on the board with the assist from Isaac Polak.  The Rangers would answer back with two goals at the 11:16 and 9:22 mark to increase their lead to 1-6 in the second.  The Rangers were able to kill both of their penalties after getting called for roughing and cross-checking with 8:59 and 6:08 left in the second.  The Caps were also able to kill the holding penalty given to Rendell with the clock showing 1:57.  Four on four hockey occurred after a roughing penalty on Brookings with 1:25 remaining in the second.

The Rangers diligent offense would create opportunities for two more goals in the third period with 11:43 and 3:57 left on the clock.  Another Caps penalty at 2:49 on Ashton Lee would find the Rangers on the last power play of the game.  The Caps would kill the penalty.  Another coincidental penalty at the 1:55 mark on Rendell for roughing sent him to the locker room early and left five on five hockey.  A scuffle in front of the Caps net created a party in both penalty boxes with only 31.2 seconds left in the game.  Two Rangers joined Carson Palmer and Ryan Wedin on the slough of penalty to round out the game.  Brookings would go home with the win and the final score of 1-8.  Kieran Duffy tallied 34 saves on the day.
