Oahe Capital Bantams sweep home series with Yankton Miracle

Oahe Capitals (SOG = 32) vs. Yankton Miracle (SOG = 20)
Saturday brought a back and forth battle between the two evenly matched teams.  Yankton led at the end of the first period 3-2 with two goals at the 14:51 and 13:26 mark before Ashton Griese cut the lead to one on an unassisted goal with 13:03 left.  Yankton would answer back with their final goal of the period with 12:05 remaining in the first.  Dre Berndt would be the first, but not the last of the Capitals to head to the penalty box for tripping at the halfway mark in the period.  Griese would capitalize on the passes from teammate Jonathan Lyons and Chris Schultz to score a shorthanded goal to close the gap once again.  The Caps 5 on 3 power play would be short lived as two Capital players would join the two Miracle players in the penalty box after penalties from Griese with 1:52 for cross checking and Ryan Wedin for holding with 1:14 remaining in the first.  Turner Starr was the lonely Capital to score unassisted in the second period with 13:16 showing on the scoreboard to tie the score 3-3.  Yankton would regain the lead with a pair of goals at 8:23 and 2:21 to carry a score of 3-5 into the third period.  The penalty box would be a busy establishment in the third period as it saw Carson Palmer heading there for high sticking at 10:30 and Ashton Lee at 9:16 for boarding.  The Capitals would successfully kill the Miracles 5 on 3 power play and would battle back to bring the score within one to 4-5 with an unassisted goal from Jaden Flor.  Less than four minutes later with 5:57 left in the game, Isaac Polak found the back of the next with the assist credited to Berndt to tie the game at 5-5.  Two more goals would clench the win for the Capitals.  The final goals scored by Lyons with the assist from Polak at 4:27 and Starr with the assist from Schultz and Berndt with 2:36 left.  Yankton would come within one after a goal with 1:53 left on the clock.  Colin Lee recorded 14 saves in the net for the Capitals.  Final Score was 7-6.

Oahe Capitals (SOG = 31) vs. Yankton Miracle (SOG = 32)
The Capitals carried the momentum into their Sunday afternoon game with another win over the Miracles.  The Capitals scored right out the gate and would never fall behind after a goal from Berndt and the assist credited to Griese with 13:33 left in the first period.  Yankton would answer back to tie the score at 1-1 at the 8:53 mark.  The Capitals would have about a 30 second power play before Berndt would get sent to the penalty box for interference with 1:40 left following a Yankton penalty at 2:21 for holding.  With the score still tied and another Miracle penalty at 13:36 in the second, Ayden Anderson would give the Capitals the lead to 2-1 with a goal at 13:27 with the assists from Starr, Berndt and Schultz.  The score would remain intact throughout the remainder of the second period but the penalty box again would see the most excitement.  Penalties on Yankton at 12:10 for crosschecking, coincidental penalties on the Miracle and Berndt for elbowing at 10:17, Griese with an hooking penalty at 9:26, Miracle penalty for tripping at 6:57, an elbowing penalty on Flor at 1:14 and the last penalty of the period with only 6.9 seconds on Yankton for slashing.  A strong scoring third period from Oahe was more than Yankton could recover from even after a Miracle goal 13 seconds after the center ice puck drop. The score would be tied at 2-2 before an unassisted goal from Polak would allow the Caps to regain the lead and never look back.  Flor and Lyons with the assist on a goal from Griese with 10:38 and Starr with the assist to Polak for a goal at 6:51 would tally the score to 5-2.  After pulling their goalie, Yankton would score with 1:08 on the clock for a final score of 5-3. Kieran Duffy recorded 29 saves in the net for the Capitals.
