The Tyler Wilcox Memorial Squirt Tournament is held annually in memory of Tyler Wilcox.  Tyler skated as a Capital from 1994 to 2002.  As he skated he gained the respect of teammates and opponents alike.

In the fall of 2002 he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma - bone cancer.  Although he could no longer skate, he remained a Capital, watching his sister skate while encircled with the tremendous support of teammates and a statewide hockey family.  His #5 jersey was retired in his honor in January, 2006.
 
In memory of Tyler, a Sportsmanship Award is presented to one player on each attending team. The player is chosen not necessarily on his or her ability to play hockey, but by continually showing a positive attitude toward the game, being a team player, and presenting as a leader on and off the ice.

At the tournament it is customary for both teams to meet at center ice at the conclusion of the game to tap sticks five times and raise them skyward.
